Wine of the week | Retailer of the month | Tasting with Oz 2006 Chapel Down English Rosé 11.5% ABV Waitrose, £8.99 This is a mix of white grapes and red – especially new red varieties Rondo and Regent, which give great flavour and colour even under the pale English sun. Well, it isn’t pale any more, of course, but our reds still need a bit of help ripening. However, red grapes that aren’t quite ripe can make smashing rosé – and this has a lovely smoky apple flavour, a cream cheese texture tempered by summer earth and a gentle, ripe red fruit aftertaste. From Oz Clarke 101 Best White & Rosé Wines 2008. Taken from the new Oz Clarke 250 Best Wines Wine Buying Guide 2008
