Delightful proof that 2006 is another good Beaujolais vintage, with lovely gluggable juicy fruit to the fore. It’s got that magical mix of strawberries, pears and stones that sounds unlikely but is so refreshing – pears dripping with juice, strawberries lifted from a summer pudding, pebbles bright and clean. Then I thought of pears in red wine with a drop or two of vanilla custard. Then I thought of talcum powder made from pebble dust. Then I thought I needed a cold shower.
