2003 Chardonnay, Diamond Valley Vineyards, Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia, £10.99, OZ Wines
Delicacy, perfect balance, elegance, class – these are not words that are applied that frequently to Aussie Chardonnays, but Diamond Valley deserves all these descriptions. This is quite simply the most delightful, harmonious Chardonnay you could find in either hemisphere. There's a crystal clear morning sunlight quality to the mellow peach, green fig and pineapple fruit, the clove and cinnamon is delicately sprinkled across the surface of the wine, and the texture suckles and caresses your tongue.
