2 August 2004 2001 Douro Reserva, Quinta de Fafide, Portugal, £7.99, Marks & Spencer The Douro Valley is where they make port, but they make loads of red table wines there too, and they're getting better by the vintage. The best examples are marked by a wonderful floral scent, and here it is: violets, lovely fragrant violets that sit daintily among a richness of buttery Scottish shortbread and cream, burly black fruit and a definite scratch or two of pine resin and herbs. Taken from Oz Clarke's Wine
