Wine of the Week

Wine of the week | Retailer of the month | Tasting with Oz

2006 Pinot Gris, Finca Las Higueras, Lurton, Mendoza, Argentina

13% ABV

Waitrose, £5.69

The Lurtons are whizz-kid entrepreneurs and winemakers from Bordeaux in France, but they make extremely good wine all over
the world. They’ve planted a vineyard in Argentina, high up towards the Andes, where they make Pinot Gris with real flavour – unlike a lot of the hyper-dilute examples we’re being offered from Italy under the disturbingly trendy Pinot Grigio tag. This would do just as well for a light lunch white, but it has taste – full, ripe, redolent of pears, flavoured with apple, coated in cream.
