Wine of the Week

8 December 2003

1996 Graticciaia, Agricole Vallone
Salento Rosso, Puglia, Italy
£25, The Wine Society

25 quid? – it's certainly good – but 25 quid? Even so, this is powerful stuff: rich and deep, and it seems to get richer and deeper the longer you leave it in your mouth. It manages to combine the gooey dark brown flavours of sultana and raisin and date without ever toppling backwards in to overripeness.
