Wine of the week | Retailer of the month | Tasting with Oz nv Jansz Rosé, Yalumba, Tasmania, Australia 12.5% ABV Flagship, Oddbins, Oz Wines, Philglas & Swiggot, Selfridges, Noel Young, £9.99–£10.99 Jansz is a Tasmanian outfit, originally started by Champagne house Louis Roederer and now owned by Aussie star family firm Yalumba. I use the non-vintage white Jansz in tastings all round the country every year and people love it. Well, they’re going to love this new rosé even more. It’s pale salmon pink, with a lovely, persistent, tiny bubble that lasts for ages in the glass if someone interrupts your drinking by trying to hold a conversation. The flavour foams and swirls round your mouth, creamy yeast mixing with pale strawberry fruit and a delightful fresh texture as soft as beeswax. Taken From Oz Clarke 101 Best White & Rosé Wines 2008. What Oz thinks of Rosé wine: I’m not going to give you complicated, poetic tasting notes about the pink wines, because any half-decent rosé shouldn’t have anything complicated to write about. It should sport a come-hither bright fresh colour, a fresh, inviting aroma and
a happy party and picnic easygoing flavour, whether bone dry or not quite. These are good-time gluggers. And they’re becoming very popular. Last year we noted a huge increase in their popularity. This year supermarkets report pink sales shooting ahead again, often up 50 per cent. So here are the pick of the pinks. Oz
