2002 Pinotage Barrique, Lammershoek
Lammershoek is a serious and fasionable new operation on South Africa's west coast, where an increasing number of her most original reds and whites come from. This is powerful Pinotage, very true to the classic flavours of the grape: mulberry fruit swirled about with toasted marshmallow and coal smoke – but there's also a good creamy texture from ageing in oak and, being the aggressive Pinotage, a slap of tannin too.
