2003 Pinot Noir, Lone Range, Craggy Range, Martinborough, New Zealand, £13.99, Marks and Spencer

Wow! They say New Zealand is the best place for Pinot Noir after Burgundy. Well, including Burgundy if they go on making stuff like this. It comes from a single vineyard in Martinborough, at the very bottom end of the North Island, which some experts reckon is New Zealand's best patch of dirt for Pinot. This is marvellously self-indulgent, with a rich viscous texture and strawberry fruit so ripe it's dropping from the bush. There's just a brush of herbs to stop you completely losing your self-control. But why hold back?
