2002 Montagny 1er Cru, Caves des Vignerons de Buxy, Burgundy, France, £8.99, Morrisons
What an interesting wine, mainly because it has a maturity that it's rare to find in the High Street. 2002 was a lovely year for white Burgundy, and Montagny is a dry, chalky white Burgundy style that benefits greatly from aging. It stays dry, almost austere, but the extra age creates a delightful lean yet soft mix of apples and hazelnut, mineral stoniness and a savoury, glycerine aftertaste.
