2003 Pinot Noir, Montana, New Zealand, £6.99, Waitrose

Montana have set out to produce the best affordable Pinot Noir in the world. They seem to control about half of all the Pinot plantings in New Zealand, so they might manage it. Certainly this 2003 has lovely plum and red cherry fruit, a hint of allspice and rather a beguilding perfume. I'd say they're on the right track.
