2002 Semillon, Mountain Vines, Cyprus,
Right –
hold your breath everyone. This outstanding wine is from Cyprus. It may be the only outstanding white wine the island produces, but I cannot think of a classier, more delicious white at this price from anywhere in Europe! And if we all buy it, other Cypriot producers might be encouraged to make more effort. It's a beautifully round, soft, balanced Semillon with refreshing lemon acidity cutting across juicy nectarine fruit and custard cream oak. You'd be hard-pressed to get this quality in Semillon's homeland, Bordeaux, for less than ten quid.
