2003 Syrah-Mourvèdre, Novas, Viñedos Orgánicos Emiliana, Colchagua Valley, Chile, £7.95, Vintage Roots
Powerful, serious wine from Alvaro Espinoza, one of Chile's most exciting young winemakers and a great believer in organic and biodynamic methods. The Syrah-Mourvèdre blend is common in southern France but not in Chile, so get a mouthful of this: dark, intense, tannic, but with tremendously rich red plum fruit and loads of pepper and spice. Taken from Oz Clarke's Wine
