6 September 2004 2001 Côtes de Castillon, Seigneurs d'Aiguilhe, Chateau d'Aiguilhe, Bordeaux, France, £7.99, Waitrose
If only there were more producers in Bordeaux like these guys. This isn't their top property. This isn't even their top wine from this property. But it gives you everything you want from Bordeaux, never overstating, not smothering you with flavour and intensity, but graciously setting out a seriously delightful taste experience. It manages to be rich, round and ripe, yet also appetizingly dry, its spicy oak delightfully balancing the cool, just-picked black cherry and black plum fruit.
