Wine of the week | Retailer of the month | Tasting with Oz 2006 Shiraz Reserve, The Boulders, California, 14% ABV Co-op, £5.49 I wish we got more affordable tasty Californian wine like this in the UK. So much stuff in this price area is so flat and lifeless. But The Boulders delivers – and then some. It’s full, it’s ripe, it’s rich – hell, it’s unctuous – but it’s not sweet and it’s not sugared up. It’s rich with clotted cream, it’s rich with black plums and prunes and dates, but it’s also chilled down by a stony dryness and the texture is soft like cold beeswax, not grape stew. The Co-operative Group Taken from the new Oz Clarke 250 Best Wines Wine Buying Guide 2008
