15 September 2003 1999 Soave Superiore Pieve
Vecchia, Fasoli, Italy: £8.70, Vintage
Roots
Soave, a magnificent misfit?
Please! A miserable mediocrity more like. Well, most Soave, maybe. But there
are great vineyards in Soave and just a few producers who really care. This
wine has a flavour like a really good French tarte aux poires – you can taste
all the fat soft flesh but you can also taste the shortcrust pastry. Close your
eyes and you can probably get some custard too.
