27 June 2005
2002 Merlot, Touchstone, Rapel Valley, Chile, £4.68, Vintage Roots
Wherever you look in red wines under a fiver, you're going to find Chile over-achieving. This one not only tastes smashing, but it's organic! You get a tremendous blast of black plum and blackberry fruit but you also get a rich vegetable flavour of old-fashioned stew, packed with celery, peppercorns and soy sauce. I even thought there was some juniper there. Taken from Oz Clarke's Wine
