Wine of the Week

13 December 2004

2003 Carmenère, Los Robles, Traidcraft, Chile, £4.99, Sainsbury's and Waitrose

I've tasted this several times in the last few months and it seems to taste different, depending on my mood. Sometimes it's deep and dark and serious – richly flavoured, but stern – and sometimes it seems positively fat and ripe. But whichever mood it catches you in, it'll have tremendous dark ripe fruit and the magic savoury pepper and soy sauce character of the Carmenère.
