2003 Merlot, Winemaker's Lot 77, Concha y Toro,
If you were holding a masterclass on what really high quality, ripe Merlot should taste like, I'd recommend using this. It's made by Concha y Toro, from a very good single vineyard, and it manages to combine Merlot cake spice and soft, rich plumminess – which will turn all soft and buttery in 2–3 years – with a streak of stony dryness and a cautionary tweak of tannin. Taken from Oz Clarke's Wine
